Production Manager – Division Operations
POSITION REPORTS TO: General Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the General Manager, establishes objectives, policies, standards and production schedules for the plant to ensure volume, quality and cost effectiveness.
THE COMPANY: is a world wide leader in manufacture of compressed air and gas skid mounted packages, pumps and vacuum and fluid transfer technologies. Offices are established in over 30 countries and in 23 US cities. This position is based in Houston, TX.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for planning, managing and directing all manufacturing, testing, and process improvement, functions for the Product manufacturing location.
- Responsible for meeting plant, division, and corporate manufacturing goals and objectives consistent with established policies and procedures to insure safe and efficient operations, satisfy customer requirements and maintain profitability.
- Provide leadership to plan, schedule, organize, and staff manufacturing and manufacturing support functions.
- Insure that all functions within the manufacturing organization are properly staffed and coordinated, and that personnel are properly qualified, directed and trained to perform their responsibilities at a high level.
- Lead subordinates to produce products and components of the highest quality, lowest cost and delivered on time to customers, utilizing the principles of LEAN Manufacturing or LEAN Six Sigma.
- Comply with overall safety and environmental government regulations and internal company policies to insure a safe workplace for employees and environmental responsibility and stewardship.
- Responsible for standard margins and variances.
- Participate in setting strategies for manufacturing operations.
- Support and communicates strategies and objectives to employees.
- Establish and maintains effective communications programs to keep plant employees informed of conditions, schedules, corporate initiatives and other pertinent information.
- Manage performance appraisal program for manufacturing employees to insure consistent measurement of performance.
- Establish plant operating budgets to meet cost standards and maintain product margin goals.
- Involves corporate resources when necessary to address opportunities or resolve problems that may require more resources than at hand.
- Maintain open communications with Product Engineering with regard to design problems, product performance, new product start-up and test results.
- Develop and manage manufacturing controls to assure that production schedules are achieved to meet sales requirements. Includes the timely machining of material and assembly of parts to fulfill production schedules without adding unnecessary cost to inventory expense
- Coordinate customer requirements with sales, marketing, and plant supply chain management.Maintain open communications with sales personnel regarding capacity constraints and operating problems that may affect forecasts.
- Conduct periodic production status meetings with staff, reviewing performance with respect to master schedule and develop action plans to deal with variances.
- Comply with applicable Quality system procedures and adheres to Company Quality Policies.
- Coordinates service and start-up activities, and unit requirements with Sales organization.
- Plan and develop manufacturing facilities and equipment for efficient production of products with regular TPM objectives.
- Maintain good community relations.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
This position:
- Directly supervises 3 employees.
- Indirectly manages 37 employees through subordinate supervisors/managers.
- Controls an annual budget of $6M.
Preferred Candidate:
A proven manufacturing engineer or industrial engineer with hands-on experience in shop manufacturing management and shop organization.
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: To be considered for this position the applicant should have detailed working knowledge of production operations in a machine shop/manufacturing environment. Prefer at least five (5) years of related experience in an industrial manufacturing facility, LEAN Manufacturing, ISO 9000 and 5S quality initiatives, leading process improvement projects, as a change agent, managing shop scheduling to meet and exceed on-time delivery (OTD) requirements. Knowledge of basic U.S. business practices, product liability practices, and patent practices. This position requires a dedicated, hard working individual willing to put in the hours to get the job done. The applicant should be aggressive; able to work independently and have actual experience performing the majority of the functions outlined in the "Major Duties and Responsibilities" section.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Production Manager will be accountable to the General Manager to ensure production management objectives are met.
EXTENT OF AUTHORITY: The Production Manager will have such authority, to be designated by the General Manager as is necessary to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position as previously described. Any limitations or specific exclusions, if necessary, will be so defined.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Production Manager will be required to communicate in English in both written and verbal form, be able to access office and plant facilities with reasonable accommodations, and have reliable transportation, a current driver’s licenses and current automobile liability insurance. The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the duties and essential functions of this job. The work environment: Spends most of time in an office and shop environment. May be exposed to shop hazards including noise, heavy equipment, chemicals. Physical demands: Frequently in the manufacturing shop production area and sitting and operating computer. May have to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Some domestic travel is anticipated.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Business preferred.
- LEAN or Six Sigma Certification (Black or Green Belt) strongly desired.

- Experience with machine and assembly shop operations/scheduling to meet manufacturing goals and objectives.
- Strong managerial skills to directly/indirectly lead large teams of factory personnel and office staff. Familiar with Positive Employee Relations (PER) Strategies to maintain non-union plant highly desired.
- Ability to effectively create and manage teams with good working relationships with all levels in the organization, especially between production and other departments (Supply Chain, Sales, Engineering, Finance and HR).

REMUNERATION PROGRAM: A competitive salary. Base salary will be based on the experience level of the applicant and industry standard.
